22, the 65th UN General Assembly plenary session, elected by consensus Nasser Permanent Representative of Qatar for the 66th UN General Assembly President.
Nasser, 58, since September 1998 has served as Permanent Representative of Qatar. Previously, he served as Ambassador to Jordan, Qatar, and served as Vice President and 57th General Assembly 64th Session of UN General Assembly Special Political and Decolonization Committee.
Nasser will be available this September 13 the opening of the 66th UN General Assembly formally took office, succeeding current President, Swiss Days.
Nasser issued after his election speech that he served as President of the UN General Assembly, will focus on working in the major challenges facing the world today to build consensus, including armed conflict, people self-determination, hunger, poverty, climate change, global economy and respond to natural disasters, financial crises and humanitarian action.
Nasser said he would not let his limited role as chairman presided over a meeting or read the statement, but will attach importance to strengthening the role of the UN General Assembly, to promote the UN General Assembly and United Nations departments, specialized agencies and other international and regional organizations build co-operation, "I desire to act as a developed, developing and least developed countries as a bridge between the service in all Member States and the United Nations system of interest."
UN General Assembly is usually held in September each year a new session. In accordance with the principle of equitable geographical rotation, the General Assembly by the Chairman of Asia, Africa, Eastern Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean, Western Europe and other countries (including North America) five elected representatives of regional rotation, elected by the General Assembly for one year.
66th UN General Assembly President should be from Asia. In February, the Asian Group unanimously 提名纳赛尔 the General Assembly as the sole presidential candidate.
